The Digital Health and Social Care website has been created to help health and social care professionals easily access needed information.
This privacy notice explains how we handle and use your personal information, if we ever require.
Who we are:
The Digital Heath and Social Care Division sits within the Health and Social Care Directorate as part of the Scottish Government, led by a director general, who also holds the role of chief executive of NHS Scotland.
What personal data will be collected and processed?
We may at times collect your personal data. This may include full name, date of birth, address and occupation/role within NHS Scotland.
We will also use your IP address to identify your location.
We use Google Analytics and collect cookies for website metrics.
At all times, when personal data is collected, we will ensure full transparency and understanding is met for individuals.
Is this lawful?
We rely on the following ‘lawful basis’ to process your personal data:
- processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the controller.
How long do we keep your data?
We retain your data according to Scottish Government record policies.
If and when we collect personal data, we shall ensure clarity to yourself and update this notice to reflect any new retention periods.

Your data is stored securely on Scottish Government servers within the United Kingdom.

Not all rights apply all of the time – for example, where there is a legal requirement for us to use your personal data, we would not be able to erase your data from our systems. All requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
